Anti-warism was (is?) mostly a liberal fashion-accessory, not the product of moral conviction. The majority of 1st World people against the war hold that position because it fits a certain popular aesthetic, a vegan, anti-gm foods, Bob Marley-loving, whale-saving, ostentatiously "righteous" life-style. Wholesale pacifism's distance in logic from the way the real world works is the product of middleclass naivete and escapist thinking. Being against the war and against Dubya is just a means of therapy, an opportunity for contrarian venting among sheep, to feel smarter and more decent than your neighbor.
This is of course, vastly different from believing that violence should only be used in cases of very direct and very immediate threat.
